Cyprus,
the third largest Island in the Mediterranean Sea lies in the North
eastern basin of the Mediterranean Sea, and covers an area of 9300
square kilometres. The capital of the Island is Nicosia. The other
major cities of the Island are Larnaca, Limassol, Kyrenia,
Famagusta and Paphos.
Cyprus, the legendary birthplace of Aphrodite, Goddess of love and
beauty, is today an island of great diversity, combining western
bustle and eastern calm. It has a marvellous climate with an average
of 340 days of sunshine per year, fine beaches, vine-covered hillsides
and pine scented forests.
Limassol or Lemesos is the
second biggest town of Cyprus and its biggest Municipality. Since
1974 it has
experienced a great development ,
becoming the biggest port in the Mediterranean transit trade.
Lemesos has since then become one of the most important tourism,
trade and service providing centre in the area. Lemesos is renowned
for its long cultural tradition. A wide spectrum of activities and a
great number of museums and archaeological sites are proposed to the
interested visitor. A unique combination of ancient, Frankish,
Byzantine and other modern influence is observed.
